in my arms

your pain was deep and damp

bigger than me and you

from a place unknown to me

granted, it started with my mistakes

but progressed far beyond that, deep into the past

for someone who said the past is the past

it was illuminating

of your hearts need for self love and a solid knowledge

that a higher power loves you more than any family

more than any partner

more than any friend

and will always, always be there for you

but that day, that moment, all i could do was hold you

in my arms

while you wept, the pain of past lives pouring out of your body

and tell you 'you're okay, it's okay' over and over

despite your pleas to stop

i simply looked to comfort. i looked to heal. i looked to mother and i looked to love.
